This collection of stories was published to document the experiences of Nepali women during and after the ten-year conflict between the government and the then-rebel Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (from February 13, 1996, to November 21, 2006). It captures the various forms of violence, pain, and struggles women endured during this period. The representative life stories were created as part of efforts in 10 districts across Nepal to amplify the voices of women who survived the conflict, including those who faced rape, sexual violence, and torture, and who, even after two decades (referred to as one decade when the book was published), have not received justice. The book aims to empower these women to participate in transitional justice processes. Overall, this book is a narrative of conflict survivors and a collection of real-life stories of courageous women who have overcome their suffering to live with resilience and bravery.
